White Party — a Palm Springs Easter tradition — will be held during the last weekend of April next year.
The change will be permanent said Jeffrey Sanker, organizer for the massive gay circuit party, which will celebrate its 25th year in 2014. The move comes, in part, to make planning easier, and for the cheaper airfares that generally found for travel on a non-Easter weekend.
“It’s still cold in the rest of the country – freezing in New York – and I don’t have to worry about so many other things going on in the rest of the United States like Ultra Music Festival that’s happening this weekend in Miami, the Black Party in New York,” said Sanker in an interview Tuesday afternoon.
Moving White Party to the last weekend in April puts it during the same time as Stagecoach, California’s Country Music Festival, held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio. The two events are dissimilar enough to not conflict with each other and are held on opposite ends of the valley, Sanker pointed out. “I feel the last weekend in April is a safe bet. It happens to be Stagecoach, but I don’t think that interferes with anything I’m doing in Palm Springs.”
This year, the White Party is set to begin Thursday, March 28, and attract thousands to Palm Springs for an entire weekend of celebrity music acts, top-name DJs, its signature Saturday night party at the Palm Springs Convention Center and more.
