If getting tickets to some of the dozens of events around the Coachella Valley during Modernism Week seemed difficult, blame the event’s obvious success.
Organizers are reporting record attendance topping 40,000 people for the eighth annual modernism week, a 10-day collection of lectures, tours, parties and more focusing on the region’s iconic mid-century modern aesthetic which seems to touch nearly all parts of art and design in the area.
Restaurants and hotels in the area reported increased activity as the event spread its wings to other parts of the valley with events like the Marrakesh Country Club Designer Showcase in Palm Desert, which put several homes in the 1960s-era Marrakesh County Club on display.
“We are absolutely thrilled about this year’s attendance, and it has become quite clear that Modernism Week is one of the hottest tickets in town each season,” Jacques Caussin, chairman of Modernism Week, told CNN.
The ninth annual Palm Springs Modernism Week is set for Feb. 13-23, 2014.
