The best tourist attraction in the Coachella Valley is The Living Desert.
That’s according to the Best Of the Coachella Valley listing by Fore Magazine, the official voice of the Southern California Golf Association.
Not only did Fore Magazine remind us of The Living Desert, a 1,200-acre expanse of dozens of desert animals like the Mexican Wolf or Leopard Tortoise, but also, where to find the best breakfast spot, (Keedy’s Fountain Grill in Palm Desert,) or the best hip bar (12th Floor Wine Bar at the top of the Fantasy Springs Resort Casio in Indio.)
The listing is heavy on offerings in the east Valley. Isn’t that where all the golf courses are? Duh.
Though there were a few Palm Springs sites to make the list. Best patio dining goes to Copley’s On Palm Canyon and the best burger can be found at Tyler’s Burgers in downtown Palm Springs. (Good choice.) And the best pizza can supposedly be found at Matchbox in Palm Springs. What? Not at Michael’s Pizzeria in Rancho Mirage?
Obviously, we will never all agree on any Best Of list that tries to parse out where to find the best sports bar or happy hour. These are lofty debates that have no definitive answer. And it may be a discussion made doubly difficult by the simple and merciful fact that in the Coachella Valley we have no shortage of happy hour spots or spas, or pizza, or for that matter — the discussion that keeps this debate alive.
